Step into the enchanting world of old Kyoto and immerse yourself in the magic of Gion and Shirakawa on this unforgettable evening walking tour. As twilight falls, lanterns flicker to life, casting a warm glow over cobblestone streets lined with centuries-old teahouses. Hear captivating tales of Kyoto’s secretive geisha culture, gaining rare insights into their artistry and way of life. Your journey culminates in an exquisite kaiseki dinner, a multi-course masterpiece of seasonal flavors, artfully arranged like a painting on small and beautiful Japanese ceramics. For Vegetarians:
Some food that we serve may have dashi, a soup stock made from kelp (seaweed) and bonito (skipjack tuna) as well as other ingredients. Dashi is the cornerstone of Japanese cuisine and is used in many/most Japanese dishes. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your dietary needs if you cannot consume dashi. Additionally, please inform us if you can eat eggs and dairy products.
If you cannot consume Dashi, we recommend booking a private tour with us and we can offer some alternatives. Again, be aware, it will still be a challenge to 100% avoid fish stock.
The food tour done by Arigato Travel in Kyoto was amazing for many reasons; the introduction to a wide range of Japanese cuisine – (it is so much more than the sushi restaurants of North America) the informative and enjoyable discussions that I had with the tour guide Toshi, the picture taking opportunities, walking the streets in the evening searching for elusive geishas. and a special thanks to Arigato for doing the tour for one guest (me) after others dropped out. Definitely, a tour company that is committed to serving its clients.
Please keep in mind, however, that we cannot make an allergy-free or dietary restriction food guarantee since food is prepared in kitchens that do not belong to Arigato Travel. Also, some stops may not have a viable substitution but we will make every effort to compensate at different stops throughout the tour.
