We loved eating various types of Japanese food and going through the streets with our guide. Although the streets are safe it was so much easier and faster with a guide to follow. She gave us lots of information on the culture in addition to food and history.

Tour Story
This tour invites guests into the everyday rhythm of Kyoto life, far from the image of a city preserved only through famous landmarks. Walking through Sanjo Shotengai, a shopping arcade deeply woven into the daily lives of local residents, guests experience Kyoto as it is lived today. Family-run shops passed down through generations, familiar exchanges between shopkeepers and neighbors, and the steady flow of daily routines reveal a side of the city that most visitors rarely see.
As we move through the neighborhood, stories emerge organically from the places themselves. At Shinsenen, a historic garden once associated with the Imperial Court, guests learn how this space has long served as a place of prayer, protection, and ritual closely tied to local beliefs. We then visit a bunsha (subsidiary shrine) connected to Yasaka Shrine, where we introduce the spirit of the Gion Matsuri and explain how this famous festival is sustained not only at the main shrine, but through smaller neighborhood shrines and communities like those surrounding Sanjo.
Throughout the tour, guests are invited to observe, listen, and imagine what it feels like to live here—shopping for daily necessities, greeting familiar faces, and passing quietly through sacred spaces as part of an ordinary day. Rather than simply visiting well-known sites, this experience offers a glimpse into Kyoto as a living city, shaped by continuity, community, and traditions that remain deeply rooted in everyday life.
