Retro Shibuya — Local Hidden Gems
Step back in time and discover hidden local gems that give Shibuya a deep culinary history beyond all the glitz and modern pop culture glamor!
Wander off the neon-lit main streets and world-famous scramble intersection and into the nostalgic heart of Shibuya, where history lingers in the alleyways, and flavors tell the story of Japan’s post-war time. On this immersive night out, our expert guide will transport you to a time when Showa-era Japan was rebuilding, innovating, and indulging in the simple pleasures of great food and good company.
Please note: due to legal restrictions at some of our stops on this tour- all members of your group must be 20 years old or older.

Slip into hidden local gems, beloved by Tokyoites for generations, and taste your way through the soul of the city. Savor a steaming bowl of rich, umami-packed ramen from a shop that has satisfied loyal customers for over six decades. Bite into crispy, golden kushikatsu—deep-fried skewers —paired with a perfectly poured drink. Step into a cozy bar where craft beer flows, and regional specialties change with the seasons, just as the locals love it.
And for the grand finale? We won’t spoil the surprise, but expect a nostalgic treat that will make your inner child grin. Shibuya’s past and present come alive in every sip, bite, and story—are you ready to taste history?

Some food that we serve may have dashi, a soup stock made from kelp (seaweed) and bonito (skipjack tuna) as well as other ingredients. Dashi is the cornerstone of Japanese cuisine and is used in many/most Japanese dishes. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your dietary needs if you cannot consume dashi. Additionally, please inform us if you can eat eggs and dairy products.
If you cannot consume Dashi, we recommend booking a private tour with us and we can offer some alternatives. Again, be aware, it will still be a challenge to 100% avoid fish stock.
Single travelers: please email us directly and let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies.
Adults only. Minimum age for this tour is 20.
Please keep in mind, however, that we cannot make an allergy-free or dietary restriction food guarantee since food is prepared in kitchens that do not belong to Arigato Travel.
